How does the La Fontenna work?

Suppose you have your La Fonera set up in an inner room in your apartment and you want to surf the net while sitting on your front terrace or at the park across the street. Your apartment walls may weaken the strength of your WiFi signal and you may not have good WiFi coverage. The La Fontenna solves the problem of weak or blocked signals. The La Fontenna amplifies the WiFi signal by two to three times in one primary direction. By adding a La Fontenna and directing it outdoors in the direction you want coverage, you’ll get the coverage you want on the terrace, and you’ll also be making your FON Spot more accessible to your fellow Foneros nearby!

What is a directional antenna?

Your La Fonera comes with an omni-directional antenna. In other words, it is an antenna system that radiates power uniformly in one plane with a directive pattern in a perpendicular plane. Sounds complicated? Think of it as a candle with a small flame giving off light in all directions. The La Fontenna is a directional antenna. A directional antenna radiates greater power in one or more directions allowing increased performance on transmission and reception and reducing interference from unwanted sources. A directional antenna works more like a torch/flashlight that gives off a lot of light primarily in one direction. Therefore, it is important that you direct it towards the area you want to provide the most coverage.

How do I install the La Fontenna?

The installation is very simple. All you need to do is remove your La Fonera’s antenna, connect the La Fontenna, and place it in the best location for making your signal more powerful. The La Fontenna also comes with kits for mounting the antenna in the place that best suits your WiFi needs.
